Georgina Harper
Dance producer and arts consultant
Tell us about yourself
I started my producing career in Hip Hop with ZooNation Dance Company, producing shows including Some Like It Hip Hop and Into the Hoods: Remixed. I went on to produce for leading artistic innovators in dance including Holly Blakey and Ivan Michael Blackstock. In 2016 I co-founded CRXSS PLATFXRM, a festival showcasing new directions in Street Culture based in Peckham, and subsequently partnered with major cultural organisations including The Lowry, Latitude Festival, Southbank Centre, Turning Tide Festival and Dance Umbrella to platform under-the-radar street culture artists. I have always been fascinated by subcultural dance and how innovative dance cultures develop, challenging what went before. I am currently embarking on a PhD program at Goldsmiths, taking a deep dive into the structures, funding mechanisms and ideologies that underpin cultural production. I’ll be specifically researching the impact of arts philanthropy on subcultural dance artists and their practice and wider implications of new approaches to arts funding in shaping the UK’s cultural future.
What excites you about being part of the ARTCRY panel?
Obsessed as I am with the challenges and inequities within arts funding, it’s great to see initiatives like ARTCRY supporting artists in fresh and different ways. I am looking forward to hearing ideas from artists across different artistic disciplines and working alongside this brilliant panel to help bring some of them to life.
What components would your dream application have?
Provocative, playful, and bold. When art intervenes in the flow of everyday life, it is at its most powerful, so that’s what I am looking for.
The Steering Committee
The company directors and panel are involved on an individual capacity, not representing their organisations and on a voluntary basis.
If you are interested in joining the panel in future please email Kathryn Bilyard on kathryn@artcry.co.uk with some information about yourself and why you are interested.
